Cross Country Takes On Tough Test at SLU

CANTON, NY - The Utica College cross country teams returned to the course on Saturday for the Hoffman Invitational at St. Lawrence University. The Utica men were fifth with 120 points, while the UC women were fourth with 106 points.

The meet afforded Utica to compete in a championship-level course setting, as St. Lawrence has hosted the NCAA regionals on five occasions.

The UC women were guided once again by freshman Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen), who set a 6:49 mile pace en route to a time of 25:25 for six kilometers. That was good enough for fourteenth. Kristin Daino (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) was second across the tape for UC with a time of 26:19. She landed in 23rd position. Sarah Sharpe (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) was 31st with a time of 27:47. Laura Levi (Inlet, NY/Town of Webb) was 33rd in 28:23. Brieann Lohmann (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) rounded out the scoring for UC with a performance of 31:24. Emma Zacharewicz (Round Lake, NY/Saratoga Central Catholic) was 43rd, Rhiannon Full (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) was 45th, and Madison Davis (Hastings, NY/Central Square) was 46th.

The Utica men were led to the finish by sophomore Michael Roberts for a third straight meet, as he averaged a 5:43 mile en route to a 14th place finish and a time of 28:26. Hayden Lohmann was the second man across the line for the team with a 33rd place finish and a time of 30:34. In just his second college cross country meet, Andrew Wieder was Utica's third scorer with a finish time of 34:13. He placed 47th. Kyler Ford was 50th in 37:51, and Brian Glantz was 52nd in 39:19.

Utica now turns its attention to the Paul Short Run on Friday, October 1st in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
