BUFFALO, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team was firing on all cylinders as it downed host Buffalo State 5-0 in its season-opener on Saturday. Four different players scored for Utica.
 
UC got on the board at 11:41 as Ro Hernandez (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) buried a feed from Sydney Cook (Waterville, NY/Waterville) for her second goal as a Pioneer.  The Pioneers doubled their lead in the 39^th minute when junior Hope Millets (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) tucked a shot inside the left post to carry a two-goal cushion into halftime.
 
The second half was all Utica as the Pioneers tacked on three more scores to cruise to victory.  Hernandez and Cook connected again in the 53^rd minute for Hernandez's second of the day, then just three and a half minutes later, Cook netted one of her own off an assist from Eliza Ericson (Beacon, NY/Beacon). 
 
Graduate student Jacinta Kaminski (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) capped off the scoring in the 72^nd minute as she rifled a shot from the right edge of the box into the top left corner.  Sophomore Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) registered an assist on the play.
 
Freshman Karen Troche (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) turned aside one shot to earn the clean sheet in her first collegiate start.  Here counterpart, Isabella Vene, made 12 saves in the loss for the Bengals. 
 
The Pioneers (1-0) return to action Tuesday as they travel to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.  Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
