Barnard Plays Hero, Sends UC Home With OT Win

Potsdam, NY - With under four minutes remaining in the first overtime, Brady Barnard (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) sent the Pioneers home with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the SUNY Potsdam Bears.

Potsdam found the back of the net first early in the match. Approaching the third minute, the Bears took a 1-0 lead on the team's first shot attempt of the evening. From there on, Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) played lights-out in goal for UC. The Pioneers were held in check all first period as they did not get off a single shot.

The second period played out in UC's favor, however. The equalizer came in the 55th minute off the foot of Sory Konate (Harlem, NY/Forsyth Satellite Academy), his first of the season, with Barnard given the assist. Nearly 40 minutes later, Barnard became the one to put a strike through the net, this time for the win with his first goal of the season. Barnard was assisted by Byamungu Mugushu (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) on the game-winner. Xidias finished the night with three saves and the one goal allowed.

UC (2-1-1) will play in front of its home crowd for the first time this season on Sunday when they take on Misericordia at 1 p.m.
