UTICA, NY – The Utica University swim and dive teams will face off against Cazenovia College this Friday in Cazenovia, NY at 6 P.M.
Last Time Out: The University Swim and Dive teams hosted Hobart and William Smith College in their previous meet on Friday. The men's team prevailed over Hobart with a 90-33 win while the women fell 128-79 to William Smith.
Season Best Times: Bailey Simmons shined as she captured first place in the women's 1000 yard freestyle and 50 yard freestyle. She recorded a time of 12:39.40 in the women's 1,000 yard freestyle and clocked in at 27.03 in the women's 50 yard freestyle. Kira Seaman won the women's 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.18. Bailey Simmons improved her time by 20 seconds in the 1000 yard freestyle and is eager to keep setting personal records.
Sorbello Show: The men's team victory was a strong team effort led by
Jackson Sorbello (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) winning two individual events and he was the anchor in the men's 200 meter freestyle win. Sorbello recorded a time of 2:00.92 in the men's 200 yard freestyle and clocked in at 53.94 in the men's 100 yard freestyle. Ronald Batario won the men's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.64 and placed second behind teammate Sorbello in the men's 100 yard freestyle.
Jackson Sorbello (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) continues to be one of the top swimmers for Utica putting points up for the Pioneers in a handful of events. While teammate Ronald Batario seems to be finding his groove and the two look to keep earning top finishes for the team.
Heating Up: The teams are heating up after performing well in their last meet with plenty of points. Many swimmers recorded new record times in the Hobart and William Smith meet and hope to be breaking into form as the season rolls on. The men's team captured its most points this season in its last match meanwhile the women continue to swim competitively and look to earn their second win of the season this weekend.
Scouting Caz: The Cazenovia men's team is 0-1 on the season while the women's team is 1-1 with a 98-24 win last time out against Medaille. Nick Dussault is the lone swimmer on the men's team. For the women's team, the swimmers to keep an eye on are Kelsey Barrows and Madeline Sauro. Both Barrows and Sauro have swam some of the faster times in events this season for Cazenovia and hope to continue their success throughout the season.
Up Next: The teams will then face off against Wells College and Roberts Wesleyan University at Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, NY. The start time for that event will be Saturday, November 19 at 1 p.m.
