Women's Hockey Keeps Rolling with Sweep Over Lebanon Valley

HERSHEY, PA- The Utica College women's hockey team picked up its fifth straight win as it downed UCHC foe Lebanon Valley College 3-1 Saturday afternoon.  Senior Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) and junior Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) each finished with three points on the day.

After a scoreless first period, Utica got on the board at 5:18 of the second as Santullo put in a rebound off a shot by Sloan for her team-leading 24th goal of the season.  With the goal, Santullo moves into sole possession of second place on the College's single-season goal scoring list.  She needs just one more goal to tie Pioneer Hall of Famer Deana Wiegand for the most goals scored in a single-season in program history.  Freshman Callie McLaughlin (Centerport, NY/New Hampton School) also assisted on the opening tally.

Lebanon Valley netted the equalizer just 1:21 later as Abby Radcliffe put in a feed from Sloane Herrera to make the score 1-1.  UC struck back with 5:49 remaining in the second stanza when Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) buried a great centering feed from Santullo for her 10th of the year.  Sloan was credited with the second assist on the insurance tally.

Sloan capped off the scoring with her first of the day and 16th of the year at 12:14 of the final frame.  Stefanini and Santullo picked up assists on the score.

Sophomore goalie Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer) had another strong showing in goal as she made 16 saves to improve to 12-1 on the year.  Her counterpart, Olivia Magneson meanwhile finished with 32 stops.

With the weekend sweep, the Pioneers improve to 18-3 on the year and 15-1 in UCHC play. 15 conference wins in a season is a new program record.  Additionally, Utica is one win shy of matching its most wins in a season ever.  UC will return home next weekend to host Wilkes University on Friday and Saturday.  Puck drop is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. both days.
