ROCHESTER, NY -
Darius Hopkins (Tampa, FL/Seffner Christian) of the Utica University men's basketball team has been named to the Empire 8 All-Tournament Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Hopkins averaged 18 points while shooting 40 percent (12-30) from the field over two tournament games. The Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team selection also shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line over both games and recorded 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest. Hopkins led Utica with 20 points in the semifinals against Alfred as well as with 16 points and seven rebounds in the championship game against Nazareth.
Hopkins and the Pioneers ended the season 23-4 overall and 15-1 in Empire 8 play. Utica's 23 wins tied the program record for most in a single season while its 15 conference wins set a new program record. The team also set a program record with a 14-game winning streak that stretched from January 18 through February 25.
