Box Score BRADENTON, FL - The Utica University baseball team and New York University were able to complete 4.2 innings of play before rain ended game one of the doubleheader with NYU ahead, 4-3, to take the win. Game two of the set was canceled due to the weather.
After a scoreless in the top of the 1st inning from Utica starting pitcher
James Roeschlaub (Auburn, NY/Auburn HS) retired the first two NYU batters before giving up a solo home run which put the Violets ahead 1-0. NYU added another run in the 2nd frame to hold a 2-0 edge entering the 3rd.

Brendan May (McGraw, NY/McGraw) RBI single put the Pioneers on the board with one out in the 3rd inning, leading to a two-RBI double off the bat of
Joe Battista (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) to give the team a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the 5th, NYU evened the game with a leadoff solo home run to left field before a steal of home four batters later with two outs put the Violets back in front, 4-3.
As
Jake Mangino (Sayville, NY/Sayville) was called upon to replace Roeschlaub after 4.2 innings of work, the game was called due to rain, allowing NYU to earn the rain-shortened win.
In his 4.2 innings on the bump, Roeschlaub (1-2, 3.29 ERA) allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits to go with four strikeouts. May, Battista,
Michael Muentener (Fairview, NJ/Cliff Side Park) and
Jason Story (Hilton, NY/Hilton HS) accounted for each of Utica's four hits.
Utica (5-3) currently has the next 10 days off before taking on SUNY Canton at Duchess Sports Complex in Cortland, NY on Mar. 26.
