Men's Lax gets Back in Win Column with Convincing Win

CASTLETON, VT- The Utica University men's lacrosse team bounced back Saturday as it downed host Castleton University 14-6 in non-conference action.  Senior John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) led Utica with four goals on the day.
 
The teams played a fairly even first quarter as the score was knotted 1-1 through 13 minutes.  Avery netted hist first of the day at 2:27 and back-to-back goals by Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) put the Pioneers up 4-1 after the first quarter. 
 
Utica used a string of seven consecutive goals between eh second and third quarter to take a commanding 13-3 lead.  Despite a pair of Spartan goals in the fourth quarter, it was not enough as the Pioneers held on for the win.
 
Serrano finished with a game-high seven points including a career-best five assists in the win.  John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) chipped in with two goals of his own and Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township), Caiden Frey (Accord, NY/Roundout Valley), Luke Rinaudo-Concessi (Babylon, NY/West Babylon), and Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park ) each netted one goal. 
 
Jon Goodspeed (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) had another impressive showing in goal as he turned aside 12 shots and allowed just five goals.  Goodspeed has now had four outings with at least 10 saves.  Chris Walk, meanwhile made 17 saves for Castleton. 
 
The Pioneers (3-2) remain on the road on Wednesday as they travel to Oswego State.  Game time is 4 p.m.
