OSWEGO, NY- Despite scoring five goals in the fourth quarter, the Utica University men's lacrosse team fell to host Oswego State 18-8 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

Oswego controlled the game from the beginning as the Lakers jumped ahead 4-0 and went on to take a 10-1 lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same with the hosts outscoring Utica 7-2 in the third quarter. Utica outscored the Lakers 5-1 over the final 15 minutes, but it was not enough as Oswego improved to 5-2 on the year.Â

John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) led the Pioneers with four goals. Avery now needs just one more goal to move into the top-10 in career goals at Utica.  Classmate
James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) also had a four-point outing as he finished with a goal and three assists.

John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) netted two goals, while classmate
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) had one goal and one assist.

Jon Goodspeed (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) and
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park ) combined four 13 saves in the loss.

The Pioneers 3-3 remain on the road this Saturday as they travel to Wilkes University. Game time is 1 p.m.
