WILKES-BARRE, PA- The Utica University men's lacrosse team got back to its winning ways on Saturday as it downed host Wilkes University 18-13 in non-conference action.
Utica carried a 10-8 lead into the second half and outscored Wilkes 5-2 in the third quarter to pull away. Sophomore
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) led Utica with a career-high five goals, including three in the second half to help secure the victory for Utica.
Gage Fiacco (Massena, NY/Massena),
John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon), and
James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) each had three goals with Daniele adding two assists to his credit as well. Freshman
Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park ) had one goal and one assist, while
Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township),
Andrew Sacco (New Haven, CT/North Haven ), and
Jack Hogan (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) chipped in with one goal each.
Sophomore
Jack Hogan (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) was impressive at the X as he won 19-of-23 faceoffs and picked up a team-high eight ground balls.
Zach Shaler (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) meanwhile led the team with two caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Jon Goodspeed (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) finished with eight saves to pick up his fourth win of the season. His counterpart, Ryan Lasher totaled 16 saves in the loss.
The Pioneers (4-3) will have a week off before traveling to Union, NJ to take on Kean University. Game time is 1 p.m.
