Women's Lacrosse Stays Hot in Cold Weather Game Against Morrisville

UTICA, NY - The chilly air and wind gusts didn't faze the Utica University women's lacrosse team on Wednesday evening as the team took down the Morrisville State Mustangs 14-4 in wire-to-wire fashion.

Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) got the offense going early as she finished on a man-up opportunity with 12:22 left in the first period for a 1-0 Pioneers lead. Shortly after, Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) found Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) for her first goal of the game to make it 2-0. After Green scored again with 6:30 left in the first, Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) capitalized on a free position that would give Utica a 4-0 lead after one.

DeCondo quickly extended the Pioneers' lead with her second goal of the game just 25 seconds into the new period and four minutes later, netted another free position shot to make it 6-0. Utica would go on to take a 10-0 into halftime after outshooting the Mustangs 32-3 over the first 30 minutes of action.

Over the first eight minutes of the third period, Rossi, Daniela Muscari (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) and Scaccia each netted a goal to continue the offensive fireworks for the Pioneers, leading to a 13-0 lead. Morrisville responded with one third period goal and three in the fourth however, it was not nearly enough as Utica cruised to a 14-4 win at home.

Scaccia, Green and DeCondo led the team with three goals each while Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) contributed a pair. DeCondo also totaled three assists for a team-high six points in the victory. Lexi and Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), as well as DeCondo, led the team with three caused turnovers while Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also led the team with five ground balls. In goal, Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) recorded two saves on eight shots while Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) made two saves as well in 13:27 in the cage.
