Utica Falls in Final Regular Season Matches

NEW LONDON, CT - The Utica University water polo team fell in CWPA play to Washington and Jefferson, 18-3, and Connecticut College, 12-7, on Sunday afternoon.
 
W&J 18, Utica 3
W&J held a 2-0 advantage entering the second quarter before outsourcing Utica 5-1 in the second to take a 7-1 lead midway through. The Pioneers surrendered five third quarter goals before ending the game with two fourth quarter goals to six from W&J. 
 
Hope Millets (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and Kim Serio (Lakeville, NY/Livonia) each recorded goals for the Pioneers. Millets led the team with two assists while Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls) added one. Utica recorded eight steals as a team led by three from Amelia Laible (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) and two by Simmons. Serio had 10 saves in the cage and recorded two steals as well. 
 
Connecticut College 12, Utica 7
The Pioneers came out of the gates red-hot, leading 4-1 after one quarter of play and 6-5 at the half. However, a four-goal effort by the home team in the third left Utica behind 9-7 entering the final quarter. 
 
Conn. College backed its four goal third with a 3-0 run in the fourth in close the game with a 12-7 win. 
 
Madison West (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy ) scored two of the team's seven goals while Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), Hope Millets (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls), Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and Terry Kirabo Nagginda (Cohoes, NY/Shaker ) scored one each. Seaman led the team with two assists while teammates Laible, Nagginda and Waryncia had one a piece. In the cage, Kim Serio (Lakeville, NY/Livonia) recorded 16 saves to go with one assist and steal. 
 
Utica (0-8) will have one final tune-up before the CWPA Championships when the team hosts Hamilton College for an exhibition match at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14.
