ALFRED, NY - Behind nine points out of
Ashley Guerra (Ionia, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima ), the Utica university women's lacrosse team cruised past the Alfred University Saxons 22-5 on the road on Saturday evening.
Guerra netted the first two Pioneer goals to take a 2-0 lead early in the first before closing out the quarter up 7-1.
Utica went on to take a 15-3 lead into halftime before outscoring Alfred 7-2 over the final 30 minutes for the convincing conference win.
Guerra totaled nine points in the win off of six goals and three assists.
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) added three goals for Utica while
Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill),
Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro),
Mara Cunningham (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and
Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) scored two.
Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) and
Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) split time in goal for the Pioneers with Frier recording one save and Palmer two on her way to picking up the win.
Utica (8-2, 3-1 Empire 8) will travel to take on Wells College at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
