ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica University women's lacrosse team fell to nationally ranked No. 25 St. John Fisher College in the 2022 Empire 8 Conference opener Saturday afternoon.

Utica kept it close in the first quarter as the Cardinals led 3-2 after the first 15 minutes of play. Fisher broke the game open with six goals in the second quarter and went on to add seven goals in the second half to come away with the win.

Seniors
Ashley Guerra (Ionia, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima ) and
Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) led the way with two points each. Guerra had a team-high two goals while Rossi netted one goal and one assist. Sophomore
Tracy Moreno (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) also scored for the Pioneers while
Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) each had one assist.

Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) made six saves in the loss, while Lilly Goodsell made five saves for St. John Fisher.Â

The Pioneers (5-2, 0-1 Empire 8) return to action Wednesday as they host Hartwick College. Game time is 4 p.m.
