UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team is set to travel to Fredonia State this weekend for the Blue Devil Clarion Classic. The Pioneers will take on the Blue Devils on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before matching up against the Oswego State Lakers in a neutral site meeting on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers visited Union College on September 3 where the team fell to the Dutchwomen 1-0. After 88 scoreless minutes, Amanda Sgueglia of Union netted the game-winning goal which sent the Pioneers home with their first loss of the season.
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) recorded 11 saves for the Pioneers while
Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas),
Ro Hernandez (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic), and
Gabriela Daumont (Latham, NY/Shaker) each attempted a shot.
One-Two-(Three) Punch: Julianna Beaulieu (Chicopee,MA/Chicopee Comprehensive) has had a solid start to her collegiate soccer career. The junior is tied for the Empire 8 lead with two goals over as many games while senior
Ro Hernandez (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) is also tied for the conference lead with two goals. Hernandez leads the Pioneers with seven shots while her average of 3.5 per game is tied for fourth in the E8. Graduate student Jacinta Kaminsky also finds herself at the top of the league leaderboard with four assists on the early season. The trio of Beaulieu, Hernandez and Kaminski share the league lead with an average of two points per game.
Count on Connolly: Even while allowing her first goal of the season at Union last Saturday,
Courtney Connolly's (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) experience has shown in goal for Utica. The junior is fourth in the E8 with a 92.3 save percentage with 12 saves to her credit. She is also fourth in the conference averaging six saves per contest while ranking fifth with a .591 goals against average.
Scouting Fredonia: The Fredonia Blue Devils enter the weekend 0-2 on the season after a pair of neutral site losses to Baldwin Wallace and Franciscan at Penn State Behrend. Katie Sellers and Ashley Campbell each tallied a goal for the Blue Devils while in goal, Sabrina Suriani has recorded 13 saves to four goals allowed on a 76.5 save percentage.
About Oswego: The Oswego State Lakers have started their season at 3-0 and in dominating fashion. The team knocked off both Cazenovia College and SUNY Canton in its first two games by a score of 7-0 before defeating Houghton University 1-0 on Tuesday. Nine different Lakers have recorded a goal this season, but none more than Katie Delgrosso who leads the team with four. Graisa Madden, Luigina Serrao and Brianna Winkler also have multiple goals with two each. Oswego has used four goalkeepers this season while they have only seen a combined six shots through three outings. Perri Anderson has been the most used in net as she owns a 3-0 record with one save over three shots faced.
