UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team is set to host St, Lawrence University for its final non-conference contest of the year at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Time Out: The team dropped its first Empire 8 matchup of the season against the Nazareth Golden Flyers 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Halfway through the first half, Tatum Overton from Nazareth was able to find a pocket of space and slotted one in the net giving the Golden Flyers an early lead. The Pioneers only shot on goal in the first 45 minutes was registered by
Gabriela Daumont. Having a shot on goal advantage of 10-3, the Pioneers made a defensive stand to hold the Golden Flyers to their 1-0 result. Down the stretch, goalkeeper
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) made some picture perfect saves recording nine on the day, making it the second most saves in a single game.
Where We Stand: The Pioneer's currently sit third in the Empire 8 standings with a record of 3-1-3. Before last week's loss to Nazareth, the team was on a six-game unbeaten streak including three major wins against conference opponents Keuka, Elmira, and Houghton. Leading the E8 with most points, the Pioneers also lead the Empire 8 with most goals scored, most assists, and least number of cards.
Life Saver: Goalkeeper
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) has started all 14 games this season in the box, where she has recorded two clean sheets with an astounding 61 saves. With a save percentage of .836%, Connolly is currently ranked third in the E8 for saves and fourth for average goals against with .895%.
Light the Lamp: Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) has had a phenomenal sophomore season so far. Showing out on the road, Lamphere has provided the Pioneers with four goals and four assists. Coming from 14 starts, Lamphere leads the team in minutes played with 1117, goals, with five, and assists, with five. In the E8, the sophomore ranks third in goals and points, and second in assists.
Scouting St. Lawrence: The St. Lawrence Saints hold a 6-4-3 overall record over the course of their season with a conference record of 3-2-1. In their last five games, the Saints are 3-2, and currently on a two game win streak. Sitting fourth in their conference, St. Lawrence is led by a star-studded underclassmen core. Coming off the bench, Zoe Rogan currently leads the Saints with seven points from three goals and an assist. Following her with five points, Sophomore Lily Pleau has found scoring form, scoring in both of her last appearances.
Up Next: The Pioneers first postseason game will be on Saturday, October 28. This will be the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. A time is yet to be determined, and the higher seed will host the matchup.
