UTICA, NY- The Utica University men's wrestling team heads to Oneonta, NY for the Oneonta State Tri-Meet on Saturday, December 9. Utica, Oneonta State and Keystone College will be the three teams competing at the meet this weekend.

Last Time Out:Â The Utica University men's wrestling team placed 13th at the RIT Invitational on December 2, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) impressed once again as the freshman placed fifth in the 133lb class. Following a first-round bye, Cortright defeated Gurjaan Bhangu (RIT) by tech fall, 17-2. He then went on to win by decision over Matthew Carrozza (Trinity (CT)), 6-0 before falling to Jack Napeloni (Williams College) by decision, 9-6. Later in the fifth place bout, Cortright pinned Ty Daugherty of John Carroll at 4:10 to solidify a top-five day. In 141,
Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) picked up a win in his first consolation match, pinning Greyson Merola (Norwich) at 0:58.
Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) came away with a pair of victories as he pinned Farhid Negahban (Pitt-Bradford) in his first match before defeating John Scaglione of Norwich by tech fall in the consolation bracket, 19-2.
Conner Shaw (Pulaski, NY/Pulaski) had a win on the day as well, pinning Alexander Cole (Penn State Behrend) at 2:44 in 184 lb.
Mathews Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) earned a win in 149 lb as he pinned Greyson Merola of Norwich in his first consolation match.Â

Captain Cortright:

Picking Up Wins:Â
Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) (141lb) and
Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) (165lb) added wins to Utica's win column at RIT on December 2. Beseth earned his first win by pinfall in his first match against Greyson Merola of Norwich University, pinning him in 0:58. Later in the afternoon, Richardson came away with two wins as he pinned Farhid Negahban of Pitt-Bradford. Richardson edged John Scagilone of Norwich by tech fall in the consolation bracket, 19-2.

Conner Shaw (Pulaski, NY/Pulaski) (184lb) and
Mathews Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) (149lb) each earned their first collegiate wins at the RIT Invitational last weekend. Shaw picked up his win by pinfall over Alexander Cole of Penn State Behrend in 2:44. Bonato earned his first win by pin against Greyson Merola of Norwich in the consolation match.Â

About Oneonta:Â The Oneonta State Red Dragons are 5-0 overall in 2023 with wins against Scranton University "A," New Jersey City University, Scranton University "B," Keystone College and Elmira College. The team placed fifth in both the SUNYAC Championships and at the Ted Reese Invitational at the University of Southern Maine.Â
Scouting Keystone:Â The Keystone College Giants are 2-4 overall in 2023. The team's last outing was against Elizabethtown College, where they placed 10 out of 10 teams. Keystone previously fell to Oneonta State 55-0 on November 12. At the Electric City Duals, the team fell to one Scranton team, 36-18 and defeated the other Scranton team, 33-24. The team then fell to New Jersey City University in the same meet, 36-20. The Giant's wins in the Electric City Duals came against Elmira College, 25-22 and Scranton.Â
