UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's wrestling team travels to Springfield, MA for the Western New England University Quad-Meet on Saturday, December 9 at 1 p.m. The teams competing in the meet are Maine Maritime Academy, Alvernia University and Western New England University.  
 
Last Time Out: The Utica University women's wrestling team completes its day at the Novice Women's Wrestling Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College last Sunday afternoon. Ashley Mendez (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) was the lone wrestler for the Pioneers at the Novice Women's Wrestling Tournament. Her first match came against Irene Macri of Lehigh University, where she fell by pinfall in 2:32. In match two on the afternoon, Mendez recorded her first win as a Utica Pioneer, defeating Daisha Roberts of Princeton University by criteria 4-4. Her final match was against Anne Lawrence of Colombia University, winning by decision 6-5. 
 
General Mills: Jillian Mills won her first collegiate match on November 18 against Chloe Rolan of Liberty University by tach fall in 3:31. Mills will be the lone wrestler competing in this week's meet at the Western New England Quad-Meet. 
 
Money Mendez: Ashley Mendez (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) recorded her first win as a Pioneer at the Novice Women's Wrestling Tournament. Mendez's win came in the third bout against Anne Lawrence of Colombia University, where she won by decision, 6-5.
 
Looking at Maritime: The Maritime Mariners have competed in two meets in the 2023 season against New England College and Western New England University. This will be the Maritime's fourth contest this season, while the team features four wrestlers. Lydia Lancina, Caitlin Schilbe, Isa Thesing and Jenna Willard. 
 
Scouting Alvernia: Alvernia is 1-2 overall. The team has lost two consecutive matches against Delaware Valley University and Cedar Crest College. On November 2, the team beat Cedar Crest College 28-21, followed by a 13th-place seed at the East Stroudsburg University. 
 
About Western New England: The Western New England University Golden Bears are 4-3 overall in the 2023 season. The team is currently on a three-match losing streak against No. 21 Elmira College, No. 10 East Stroudsburg University and No. 5 Sacred Heart University. The Golden Bears started the season on a four-match winning streak against New England College, No. 20 Ursinus College and Southern Virginia University. Western New England will feature seven wrestlers: Gianna Hernandez (109lb), Ariel Casella (116lb), Victoria Orender (123lb), Linda Holeman (130lb), Sabrina Sedor (136lb), Kendall Branchaud (155lb), Mikayla Maloy (170lb) and Madeline Hodges (191lb). 
 
Up Next: The team travels to Jersey City, NJ for the Jersey City Duals at New Jersey City University on Friday, December 15. Three teams will be competing: New Jersey University, Alvernia University and East Stroudsburg University.
