UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's wrestling team hosted its second-ever home meet on Saturday afternoon, welcoming a variety of different schools to Miga Court for round robin competition. The Pioneer wrestlers fought at an array of different weight classes, battling wrestlers representing schools such as Ithaca College, Springfield Technical, Nassau Community College, Bergen Community College, and Onondaga Community College.
At 131 pounds,
Dakoda House (Oneonta, NY/Cherry Valley Springfield) fought well, securing a fifth place finish in the most competitive weight class. The freshman fighter competed hard, battling well against one of the meet's most outstanding wrestler selections. She also defeated fellow Pioneer
Octavia Dragotta (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) during the action. Dragotta had an excellent effort in her own right during what was the first ever home meet for both wrestlers.Â
At 180 pounds,
Evelyn Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/Miller Place) got off to a stellar start against Karen Ramirez, surging out ahead after the starting whistle before eventually losing steam in a narrow defeat.Â
At 207 pounds, Utica competitors
Paityn Billard (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and
Natalie Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) were the only two active wrestlers, leading to two separate bouts between the pair of Pioneers. In the matches, Enriquez managed to best Billard after momentum from both wrestlers during the course of the matches.Â
Following the five-round event, the Pioneers wrapped up their second ever home meet. The team will now turn their attention towards next week's Lackawanna College Tri-Meet which will begin at 6:00 PM next Tuesday in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
