ELMIRA, NY - Utica University's women's wrestling team competed Wednesday night in a tri meet at Elmira College, facing the host Soaring Eagles and Ithaca College. The Pioneers were unable to secure a win in either dual, falling 44-0 to Elmira before dropping a 29-10 decision to Ithaca. The team will aim for a quick turnaround before hosting the Utica Round Robin on Saturday, including potential rematches with Ithaca.
After Elmira opened the tri meet against Ithaca, Utica closed out the night for the host team, with all contested bouts going in favor of the hosts.
Octavia Dragotta (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) competed at 124 pounds, falling by pin at 2:47, while
Dakoda House (Oneonta, NY/Cherry Valley Springfield) was defeated by technical fall at 131.
Jackie Mace (Montour Falls, NY/Odessa-Montour) wrestled at 138, and
Evelyn Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/Miller Place) competed at 180, with both matches ending via medical forfeit.
Natalie Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) closed the dual at 207, falling by pin at the 0:40 mark, as Elmira claimed the team victory.
In the final dual of the evening, Utica faced Ithaca College and fell 29-10. The Pioneers' points came via forfeits in the 180 and 207 pound classes, with
Paityn Billard (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and
Natalie Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) claiming the wins. In contested action, Dragotta competed at 124 and House followed at 131, with Ithaca earning bonus-point victories in both bouts. Mace returned to the mat at 138 before Utica closed out the night in the upper weights as the Bombers secured the remaining team points.
The Pioneers will look ahead to Saturday, January 31st, when they host the Utica Round Robin. The eight-team event will kick off at 1:00 pm at the Miga Court in Clark Athletic Center.
