UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team will finish their regular season game against Alfred University on Saturday, at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) led the team with two goals while the team's other seven goals came from seven different players. All nine goals also came unassisted. In goal,
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) recorded 16 saves en route to his sixth win of the year. Costanza opened the scoring just 1:30 into the game to grant the Pioneers a quick 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Keuka fired back to even the score 1-1. From there, Utica rattled off four goals in a row between the remaining minutes of the first quarter and the early stages of the second.
Hayden Sachel (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) scored with six minutes left in the first while
Jonathan Chilinski (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) beat the horn and scored as time expired in the first.
Kevin O'Brien-Bruno (Goshen, NY/Don Bosco) and
Jack Hogan (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) then scored six seconds apart at 13:20 and 13:14 of the second before the Wolves broke their skid with 12:26 left in the half.
Caiden Frey (Accord, NY/Roundout Valley) and
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Roundout Valley) also netted second quarter goals while the Wolves added one more of their own as the Pioneers held a 7-3 lead at the half. Keuka came out strong to open the half with a pair of goals over the first five minutes of play. However,
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) put the Pioneers back up by three midway through the quarter as the game moved into the fourth with Utica ahead 8-5. The Wolves refused to go down quietly, scoring the first three goals of the fourth to pull even at 8-8. With 4:17 left in the game, Costanza came through with what proved to be the game-winner to help pull the team back to .500 in league action.Â

Postseason Scenario: The Pioneers enter their final game of the season with an opportunity to jump into the Empire 8 Tournament. Utica would clinch the No. 4 seed with a win on Saturday and a Hartwick loss. However, Utica is eliminated with a loss or Hartwick win.

Constanza Time: Sophomore
Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) has been a great force on the Pioneers midfield and sits second on the team with 15 goals and 11 assists. The first goal he netted was early in the first quarter which set the tone for the Pioneers for the remainder of the contest. Constanza needs two more points on the season in-order to reach his season high from last season which was 28.Â

Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) recorded 16 saves against Keuka while surrendering eight. This was the eighth time this season he recorded more than ten saves. He ranks fifth in the Empire 8 with a .534 save percentage and seventh in saves per game recording 10.31.Â

Ethan Brown (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) is leading the team in both caused turnovers (27) and ground balls (43). He has tallied a caused turnover in 14-out-of-16 games and he ranks third in the Empire 8 in caused turnovers with 27 and seventh in ground balls totaling 52.Â

Scouting The Saxons: The Alfred men's lacrosse team is 10-4 overall with a 5-1 Empire 8 record. It's currently on a three-game win streak beating Keuka, Oswego and Medaille. Kevin Matson is leading the team and the Empire 8 with 65 points while averaging 5.00 per game. He has recorded at least one point per game while his most productive game came against Russell Sage where he put up 12 points. Paul Forte is second on the team with 17 goals and 23 assists. He ranks fifth in the conference in assists and has recorded eight in the last two matchups.Â
