UTICA, NY - The Utica University tennis team is set to host Oswego State on Wednesday, September 20 at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to face Nazareth University on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. The team will conclude the week hosting St. John Fisher on Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The team fell to Alfred 9-0 on Saturday, September 16 in its first Empire 8 match of the season. Prior to that the team earned its first win of the season beating Russell Sage 5-4 on Wednesday, September 13 in a non-conference bout.

Where We Stand: The Pioneers have seven matches left on their schedule with five being Empire 8 bouts. The team will face Oswego State and Oneonta State in its two non-conference matches with Nazareth University, St. John Fisher University, Houghton University, Russell Sage College, and Hartwick College being its remaining Empire 8 matches.Â

Season So Far: Ellen Lyga (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) leads the team with a 2-1 singles record while
Callie Ott (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) is 1-0 and
Selma Dizdarevic (Utica, NY/Proctor) is 1-1.
Paetra Heeren (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and
Isabella Bonapace (Leonia, NJ/Leonia) are 1-1 thus far in doubles teams while
Lyndsey Tiedemann (Salt Point, NY/Franklin D Roosevelt) and
Callie Ott (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) have a 1-2 doubles record after falling in a close match to Alfred last time out.

Scouting Oswego State: The Lakers are 2-4 this season and sport a 2-3 SUNYAC record. The team fell to Plattsburgh State 6-3 on Saturday, September 16. Kathryn Salamida and Alyx Sperling both sport a 2-0 record in singles play. The duo of Kathryn Salamida and Emily Lyga have led the way sporting a 2-0 record in doubles. Oswego has performed well in doubles with the team sporting a combined 4-2 record.

Looking at Nazareth: The Golden Flyers are 0-1 this season after falling 9-0 to Geneseo. Catherine Zak and Kenna Ellis played well in their doubles match yet ended up falling 8-6. Both Zak and Ellis each played close in their singles match yet ultimately fell. Ali Klee, Sarah Stone, Anna Spencer, and Aly Agnello are the four other starters for the team and are players to look out for.

Scouting Fisher: The St. John Fisher Cardinals are 1-2 this season and will face Alfred University on Saturday, September 23 before clashing with Utica on Sunday. Kathryn Strait and Olivia Rizzo are the team's top duo while Madison Galvin and Lilly Renzi put up a close fight in their last doubles match together. Abby Garver won her last singles match 6-3, 6-1 while Lilly Miller went 10 games in her final set in singles and is another player to watch.
