UTICA, NY - The No. 10 Utica University women's hockey team travels to Oswego, NY to face the Oswego State Lakers on Friday, January 19 at 3 p.m. for its final non-conference tilt of the season.

Last Time Out: The No. 10 Pioneers completed the weekend sweep of the Stevenson University Mustangs with a 7-1 win last Saturday afternoon. Seven different players scored for Utica including newcomer
Autumn Mish (Long Lake, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)), who notched her first goal as a Pioneer in the third period.
Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks),
Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel),
Cortney Staniszewski (Buffalo, NY/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) ,
Erica Sheaffer (New Hartford, NY/Wilkes University),
Molly Pedone (Trinity, FL/Shattuck-St. Mary's) and
Sydney Mintz (Kelowna, BC/Okanagan Hockey Academy) also scored in the win.
Tess Barrett (Tewksbury, MA/St. Mark's) led the team with a pair of assists while
Ava Suda (Cheektowaga, NY/Buffalo Bisons),
Cameran Evans (Emsworth, PA/Pittsburgh Penguins Elite),
Madison Novotny (Wesley Chapel, FL/Northwood School),
Angelina Garganese (Winter Springs, Fl/Florida Alliance),
Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School)) and
Maggie Rylott (Cobourg, Ontario/West Northumberland) each had one. Between the pipes,
Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer) picked up the win with nine saves and just one goal allowed on a Mustangs power play. In all, Utica outshot Stevenson 60-10 and controlled 36 of 58 faceoffs led by Sheaffer's 10 and Modlin's seven. The Pioneers wasted little time finding the board and Staniszewski got the party started at 2:50 in the first period. Midway through the period, Utica rattled off two goals in a 27 second span with Pedone finding the back of the net at 13:58 and Modlin at 14:25. Stevenson found an opportunity late in the first following a
Rachael DeLong (Ballston Spa, NY/Sacred Heart (NCAA DI)) slashing call. On the advantage, the Mustangs' Carleigh Barwick scored to trim the Utica lead to two goals as the first came to a close. Despite 22 shots on goal in the second, the Pioneers couldn't capitalize on any while Hawthorne also kept Stevenson off the board to go into the final 20 minutes still ahead 3-1. Utica regrouped offensively in the third with four goals coming in spurts. The first two scores came under a minute apart with Sheaffer coming through at 6:51 followed by Mintz at 7:20. The final two Pioneer goals came on power plays as Mish recorded her first goal as a Pioneer at 12:47 while Sloan put the finishing touches on the win at 18:36 with Barrett recording her second assist of the game on the goal.
In the Polls: Utica remained No. 10 in this week's US College Hockey Online Women's Top 15. The poll was released Monday by the national college hockey website. The Pioneers received 121 points this week to hold at No. 10. Utica went on the road this weekend and swept UCHC opponent Stevenson University with a 9-0 win on Friday and a 7-1 victory on Saturday. Modlin Mania: Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) was named UCHC Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Against Stevenson, she kept her foot on the gas as she collected five points (2g, 3a). She currently has a career-high in points with 26 (14g, 12a), the most in the UCHC) while sporting a 1.92 shot percentage. Modlin's 14 goals are tied for fourth in NCAA Division III and her 1.62 goals per game is ranked seventh.
Pouring It On: The Pioneers have been dominating as of late in UCHC play, outsourcing their opponents by an average of 3.8 goals per game. Against Stevenson last weekend, Utica scored 16 goals in two games while only allowing one. In 16 games played, the Pioneers have scored 75 goals, averaging 4.69 per game. The 15 goals Utica allowed is the least in the conference as they have only let up six goals since November 18.
Molly Pedone (Trinity, FL/Shattuck-St. Mary's) and
Maggie Rylott (Cobourg, Ontario/West Northumberland) place in the top 10 in the UCHC in goals as they each have eight. Whitney's 14 assists is tied for first in the UCHC, while
Tess Barrett (Tewksbury, MA/St. Mark's) stands in second with 13.
We Got the Power: Utica's power play and penalty kill have been causing havoc this season for opponents. The team has scored nine shorthanded goals, six more than the second-leading team with six.
Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Millbrook School) stands second in the NCAA with three short-handed goals. The Pioneers' power play is ranked third in the UCHC with 13 goals, good for a .265 average. Utica's penalty kill has been dominating, as they have only allowed five goals.
Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) is tied for first in the NCAA with five power-play goals in 14 games.
About Oswego: The Oswego Lakers are 8-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the SUNYAC. Oswego's most recent game came against No. 7 Hamilton College. Hamilton defeated Oswego 3-1 at the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. The team is led by junior forward Ashlyn McGrath who has recorded 10 goals, four assists, four power-play goals and 47 shots in 16 games. Her four power play goals are the most in the SUNYAC and her nine goals is tied for second in the conference with three other players. Over the last two games, McGrath has posted four points (3g, 1a) and five shots. Junior forward Mack Hull is Oswego's second-leading scorer, with seven goals and five assists. Junior forward Simone Bednarik leads the Lakers and ranks fifth in the SUNYAC with eight helpers. Junior goaltender Lexi Levy is Oswego's netminder, sporting a .934 save percentage and a 5-4-1 overall record. Levy has started in nine contests and has played in 10 where she allows 2.01 goals per game.
Series History: Utica is 17-9-2 all-time against Oswego State. These teams last met in 2022-23, and Utica defeated Oswego 5-0. The Pioneers had five different goal scorers:
