UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's wrestling team travels to Cortland, NY for the SUNY Cortland Duals on Saturday, January 20 at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Utica University men's wrestling team completed the Will Abele Invitational at Ursinus College on January 13, placing 14th. Freshman Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) keeps impressing, placing 1st in the 133lb weight class out of over 20 wrestlers. Cortright entered the invitational as a two seed, facing Sam Teti of Ursinus College in the first round of 32. The first period consisted of pure dominance for Cortright, finishing the first period up 11-1. Cortight would take care of business the rest of the way as he went onto win 18-2 by tech fall. In the second round, he defeated Gurjaan Bhagu of Rochester Institute of Technology, 12-1. Next, Cortright scored two shutouts in a row in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the quarter-finals he was relentless, winning 9-0 over Joseph Aldrich from American International. Cortright would go on to defeat Danny Poggi in the semi finals, 15-0 by tech fall followed by a spectacular 12-4 final win over fourth seeded Jagger Clapsadle of Ursinus College by major decision, 12-4. James Post (Ilion, NY/Ilion) received a win for Utica, defeating Dylan Ceprish of Keystone College by tech fall in 1:19. Mathews Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) took care of business in the first round of 32, taking down Kevin Cordero of The University of Scranton in 4:24 by tech fall. Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) grabbed a win by fall in 1:26 over Colby D'andria from Oneonta State.
Man On A Mission: Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) is currently 20-5 after going 5-0 at the Will Abele Ursinus Open. Over his 20 wins, he has five wins by decision, three by major decision, six tech falls, and six pins. At the SUNYAC on November 18, Cortright had two impressive wins over Rocco Futia and Cody Merwin, both from Cortland, during the SUNYAC. Cortight defeated Futia by decision 1-0, then beat Merwin by decision 4-3.
Postin' Up: James Post (Ilion, NY/Ilion), at 125lb picked up his first collegiate win at Ursinus last weekend, pining his opponent in 1:19.
Keepem' Comin: Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) sports a 8-8 record with five wins by pin, two by decision and one by major decision. His most impressive wins came last weekend at Ursinus College where he went 2-2.
Cortland Scout: The Cortland Red Dragons are 3-5 in dual matches this season. Cortland recently wrestled at the Budd Whitehill National Duals in Williamsport, PA, where they defeated Messiah College (25-21) and Williams College (35-20). The team fell to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (35-7), Springfield College (27-17) and Ithaca College (43-2). In the OpenMat.com rankings, Cortland has three wrestlers ranked in the top 20 nationally. J.C Cardenas is the No. 5 wrestler at 125 pounds, Angelo Centrone is the No. 2 ranked wrestler at 149lb and at heavyweight, Leo Rabinovich is ranked No. 13.
