UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's soccer team fell in league play 2-0 against the Hartwick Hawks on Wednesday evening. Box Score.
 
Anderson Velazquez (Norwood, NY/Marble Hill) led Utica with four shots, three on goal. Gavin Baxter (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville), Brady Barnard (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Marco Gadea, Martin Mendoza (Walden, NY/The Mount Academy) and Jalen Lucero (Albuquerque, NM/Higley) each had at least one shot on goal. 
 
Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) started in goal for the Pioneers, making four saves and registering a first-half clean sheet.
 
Both teams went scoreless in the first half as Utica outshot Hartwick five to three. Gadea let off a rocket with just under two minutes to play, but Hartwick goalkeeper Dante Gesamondo. Velazquez and Gadea led the Pioneers with two shots each, both on goal, while Loselose had Utica's third shot. Utica and Hartwick would head into the second half all nodded up at zero. 
 
The Hawks scored first with just over 10 minutes to play in the second half, courtesy of Andres Ordonez Acosta. Utica had plenty of scoring opportunities, as Baxter had two quality chances 20 minutes left in the second, but Gesamondo was all over it. With 25 minutes remaining, Ordonez Acosta scored again for Hartwick as they held onto defeat the Pioneers 2-0.
 
Utica (2-7-6, 1-4-3 Empire 8) travels to Nazareth University on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
