Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Nazareth

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell in an Empire 8 Conference matchup against the Nazareth University Golden Flyers by a score of 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Finding the back of the net for Utica was Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) for her third goal of the season. Leading the way for the Pioneers were Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) and Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) who each recorded three shots. Mackenzie Turner (Hamilton, NJ/The Hun School of Princeton) and Rory Richard (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) each recorded two, while Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury) recorded one. Goalkeeper Emily Duro (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) recorded five saves in the effort.

The first shot of the game would come in the second minute off the foot of a Nazareth offender, but would sail just wide of the net, followed by another shot that would be swallowed up by Duro. It would be the eighth minute that Nazareth would find the back of the net, putting the Golden Flyers ahead at 1-0. Utica would not record a shot until the 14th minute off the foot of Richard. Less than 45 seconds later, Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) would find the back of the net for the Pioneers sending one rifling past the Nazareth goalkeeper for her third tally of the season to knot the score at one a piece. Utica would rifle off four more shots for the remainder of the half, sending the Pioneers into the break in the midst of a 1-1 draw.

The second half would see both teams vying for possession before Utica would be able to get a shot off in the 57th minute off the foot of Piersma. The Pioneers would not allow the Golden Flyers an opportunity to find the back of the net until the 65th minute, but it would be saved by Duro. Both teams would continue to fight for possession for the remainder of the half, but it would be Nazareth that would be the ones to squeak one by Duro to take the lead, and the win, 2-1

Utica (4-9-2, 2-5-2 Empire 8) returns to action on the road Wednesday October 30 in the team's final non-conference matchup against the St. Lawrence University Saints. Game time in Canton, NY is set for 4pm.
