Women's Wrestling Heads to Elmira College

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's wrestling team heads to Elmira College for a Tri-Meet on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Utica University women's wrestling team showed out at the Pioneer Open at Alfred State on November 10. Jazmene Molina (La Mirada, CA/Valencia) and Braylin Jones (Payson, UT/Salem Hills) took first place in their respective weight classes. Molina started the day by beating Brooks Tarshis of Buffalo State by tech fall 10-0. In her second match she pinned Deanna Williamson in 1:02 before receiving a bye. In her fourth match, Molina won 10-0 against Rosaliz Aponte of Buffalo State. In the final bout, she won by pin in 1:02 against Anna Sheehan of Alfred State. Jones began the day by pinning Ethe Hemphil of Alfred State in 2:00. Jones won her second match, in 4:16 again, by pin over Brooke Walsh (Alfred State). She won by tech fall against Madison Szymanowski (Buffalo State) 12-0 before defeating Mills by fall in 5:43. Gillian Mills (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) took second place at 138lb, winning by tech fall (11-0) over Madison Szymanowski (Buffalo State). In her second match, she won by tech fall 10-0 over Ethe Hemphill (Alfred State). In Mills's last match, she won by tech fall over Brooke Walsh
 
Elmira Tri-Meet: Elmira and New Jersey City will be the two schools competing along with Utica.
 
Up From Here: Molina moved up two spots nationally in the 124lb weight class from No. 18 to No. 16. She has been a force on the mat for the Pioneers, going 9-1 in two meets. She has given up only 10 points, which came in one match. Jones was dominant at Alfred St last weekend, picking up the most individual points (44) and team points (19.5) as Utica placed second overall. She tallied three pins and one win by tech fall (12-0), as the team combined for a 14-5 individual record.
 
About NJCU: The team last competed at the Adrian College Invitational on November 10, placing 21st out of 30 teams. The Knights are ranked No. 13 nationally in team tournaments and No. 13 in dual matches. Out of three competitions this season, their best finish came at the East Stroudsburg Open, taking 11th of 35 teams. NJCU has two ranked wrestlers, No. 8 Izabella Frezzo (110lb & 117lb) and No. 4 ranked Sandy Guerrero.
 
About Elmira:  The Soaring Eagles attended the Adrian Invitational on November 10, placing 13th of 30 teams. Elmira posted two first-place finishes. Elmira is ranked No. 17 nationally in team tournaments and No. 14 in dual matches. The team's best finish this season came at the ESU Open, placing 3rd and their 13th place finish at Adrian. Elmira has six ranked wrestlers out of the 10 weight class. Abby Duke (110lb), Megan Edwards (124lb), Emily Sindoni (138lb), Zoey Lints (145lb), Skylah Chakouian (160lb) and Tayana Labady (207lb).
