Men's Wrestling Travels to Scranton For Quad-Meet

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's wrestling team travels to Scranton, PA for the University of Scranton Quad-Meet on Saturday, February 10 at 11 a.m. The University of Scranton, Bergen Community College and Hunter College will be in attendance.

Last Time Out: The Utica University men's wrestling team fell to Castleton University in a dual meet, 52-6 on Friday evening. At the 133lb bout, Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) did it again, defeating Vito Rodriguez. Cortright won by fall in 2:30 and he has now extended his winning streak to 11 straight matches. At 125lb, Castleton's Caleb Massari defeated Mikael Neris (Medford, NY/Bellport). In the 141lb weight class, Tylik Epps beat Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt), followed by Elijah Cyr (149lb), defeating Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham). Castleton's Blake Chapman (157lb) beat Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) and Nicholas Roeger (165lb) defeated Logan Krouse (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg)
 
Man On A Mission: Trevor Cortight(133lb) keeps displaying greatness week in and week out as he enters Saturday's Quad-Meet on an 11-match winning streak, dating back to December 4 at the RIT Invitational. Cortright becomes the first wrestler in Utica University men's wrestling program history to receive a ranking in the NWCA. He has a 22-6 overall record with seven wins by pin, seven by tech fall, five decisions, and three major decisions. 
 
Cortright received the No. 8 ranking at 133lb in the Northeast region; full individual rankings can be found here
 
Leading The Pack: Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) and Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) are looking to tack on a few more wins to their win total at Scranton. Beseth sits at 7-11 on the season with three wins, two tech falls and two pins. Corporan has five pins, two decisions and one major decision. 
 
John Long Center: The Long Center is the University's main athletics facility and is home to the men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball and wrestling teams.
 
Teams Attending:
 
Hunter College: The Hunter College Hawks are 0-5 overall in dual matches in 2023-24. Their last match was at the NYU Quad Match.
 
University of Scranton: The Scranton Royals are 3-6 overall in dual matches this season. The team is coming off a second-place finish (113 points) out of nine teams at the Lycoming College Invitational. Scranton has wins against Keystone College, Elmira College and New Jersey City University. 
 
Up Next: Utica travels to Troy, NY for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, February 17 at noon. The Pioneers will face West Chester University and RPI.
