Last Time Out: The Utica University men's lacrosse team picked up its second consecutive win, defeating SUNY Canton 14-3 on Saturday, March 16.
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout Valley) led Utica with four goals, one assist, three ground balls and six shots on goal.
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) and
Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) scored three goals each.

Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in net collecting his third win with eight saves and
Jake Bowen (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) finished the afternoon in net with two saves.
Jack Hogan (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) went 11 for 15 at the face-off strip giving Utica plenty of offensive possessions. Canton scored the first goal, giving the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead with 9:28 to play. Just over a minute later, Serrano evened the game for Utica at one. With 6:31 to play, Serrano assisted Spoto, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) tallied his second goal of his freshman campaign with 44 seconds to play on a man-up opportunity as Utica would close out the first quarter up, 3-1. Utica and Canton combined for 16 shots on goal in the first, 11 for Utica and five for Canton. Both teams played stout defense in the second quarter as only seven shots on goal were recorded, four for Utica and three for Canton. With 2:23 to play in the quarter, Mecca assisted Donahue to give Utica a 4-1 lead, and exactly one minute later, Serrano scored a man-up goal with an assist credited to Costanza. Utica would jump out to a 5-1 lead heading into halftime. Utica's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the third quarter as three different players scored the first three goals in the first nine minutes. Utica would close out the third on a three-goal run heading into the fourth quarter with a 10-2 advantage. The Pioneers opened the fourth quarter with two quick goals from Donahue and Considine giving them a 12-2 lead with 12:04 to play. Three more goals were scored in the quarter, one from Canton and two from Utica. The Pioneers would go on to win in dominant fashion, 14-3.

Sam and Co: Senior attackman
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout Valley) leads Utica in every major statistical category. He's recorded a point in every game with his most coming on March 16 against SUNY Canton where he collected four goals, one assist, six shots on goal, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) is second on Utica with eight goals and three assists. Consdine and Serrano's tenacity on the ride has caused many failed clears from the opposition. Between the two, they've combined for 33 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
John Spoto (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), Serrano and Considine combined for nine of the team's 14 goals against Canton.

Not In My House: Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) has looked locked in since the team's loss to Hamilton on March 5 and has posted a .542 save percentage, which ranks second in league play. Oswald has stamped himself in the top three in Empire 8 play with a 10.11 goals-against average and has 10.83 saves per game through six games.

D#: Utica sits atop the Empire 8 with a .806 penalty-kill percentage. The team has only allowed seven goals out of 36 opportunities. The defensive trio of
Ethan Brown (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks),
Andrew Sacco (New Haven, CT/North Haven) and
Aaron Bergquist (Brewerton, NY/Central Square)Â has looked stellar, combining for 27 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls through six games.

Scouting Oswego: The Oswego State Lakers are 2-3 overall with no games played yet in the SUNYAC. The Laker's most recent game resulted in a 16-7 loss to Alfred University on March 16. Oswego is led by junior attackman Corey O'Connor (13g, 2a), who has 10 goals and 12 points in the last three games. Freshman Garrett Elston is second on Oswego with 10 goals and two assists. Against Alfred, he scored four of the team's seven goals. Freshman midfielder Emmett Starowizc (2g, 10a) leads the team with his 10 helpers and five caused turnovers. Junior faceoff specialist Logan Prescott has gone 53 for 110 (.482 faceoff percentage) and has grabbed 28 ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Seamus Hand has started all five games for the Lakers posting a 1-3 record. He sports a .645 save percentage and a 10.10 goals-against average.

Scouting Marywood: The Marywood University Pacers are 1-5 overall with no conference games played yet. The team is on a three-game losing streak dating back to its 5-6 loss against King's College on March 6. Marywood's lone win was a 4-3 defeat over Mount Saint Mary College (NY). The Pacers are led by senior midfielder Nick Ericson and senior attackman Aiden Kilkenny. Ericson leads Marywood with eight goals, 26 shots on goal, 48 ground balls and has gone 73 for 105 (.695 percent) at the faceoff X. Colin Trainor and Gavin Ammlung have split time in net for Marywood. Ammlung has a 1-1 record with 23 saves and a .469 save percentage. Trainor's gone 0-2 overall with 38 saves and a .535 save percentage.
