UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team hits the road for two games this week. The team travels to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m. followed by Russell Sage College on Saturday, April 13 at 12Â p.m.

Last Time Out: The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell 15-6 to the Alfred University Saxons on April 6 at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Connor Costanza (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) led Utica with four points on one goal and three assists. The Pioneers had four different goal scorers including Costanza.

Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in net, making 12 saves. He made six saves in each half. Alfred struck first at the 11:55 mark, taking an early 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Donahue evened the game at one with an assist from Shea. This was Shea's first game of 2024. Alfred closed the quarter out on a two-goal run, taking a 3-1 lead into the second. Seven goals were scored in the second quarter between Alfred and Utica, five for Alfred and two for Utica. The Saxons scored 41 seconds into the second and just over a minute later, Costanza scored, cutting the lead in half to 4-2. With 11:38 to play, Alfred went up 5-2 and 20 seconds later, Considine scored making it a 5-3 game. The Saxons scored three more goals, heading into halftime with an 8-3 advantage. Alfred scored four goals in the third quarter compared to Utica's one as they took a 12-4 lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams combined for five goals in the fourth. Alfred went on to win 15-6.

Freshman Presence: Ryan Considine's (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) freshman campaign has been nothing short of exceptional. He has 28 points on 19 goals and nine assists. He's collected a point in 10 out of 11 games played and has 16 points in four games (10g, 6a). Considine is on pace to record the most points as a freshman in Pioneer history.

Man-Up/Man-Down, No Problem: Utica's man-down unit leads the league with a .750 percentage on 16 of 64 attempts. The Pioneers are second in Empire 8 play with 17 man-up goals, five of which are credited to
Sam Serrano (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout Valley) who has the most on Utica.

Keep on Eating: Ethan Brown (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) has 19 caused turnovers this season, which is top three in league play. He has six in the last three games, collecting three in two of three games. Against Alfred, he held their top attack to one goal, two assists and two shots on goal.

Brick Wall: Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) is having a stellar season, posting a .536 save percentage and an 11.64 goals-against-average. In the last three games, he has a combined 42 saves.

Scouting Brockport: The Brockport Golden Eagles are 2-8 overall and 1-2 in SUNYAC play. The team is coming off a 10-11 loss to SUNY Cortland on April 6. Brockport's two wins came against Westminster College (20-8) and New Paltz (13-12). Graduate student attackman Nick Askin leads the Eagles with 44 points on 41 goals, three assists and 78 shots on goal. He has 13 goals combined in three consecutive games against Alfred, New Paltz and Cortland. Askin's most goals came against Westminster where he posted 10 on 18 shots on goal. Freshman attackman Marc Zappula leads with 13 assists on 20 points. Senior faceoff specialist Andrew DiPalma sports a .565 percentage, going 144 for 255 in 10 games. Junior goalie Jack Acker started seven games recording a 2-4 record. He has a .503 save percentage with 89 saves and a 15.57 goals-against percentage.Â

Russell Sage Scout: The Russell Sage Gators are 4-8 overall and 1-2 in Empire 8 play. The team is on a two-game winning streak, defeating Eastern Connecticut St. (16-14) and Saint Joseph's (NY) (16-3). Sophomore attackman Nate Kettle leads Sage with 54 points on 33 goals and 21 assists and 63 shots on goal. Graduate student midfielder Shea Obado is second on the Gators with 26 goals, 10 assists and six man-up goals. The Gators roll out two faceoff specialists, Gamo Koulibaly and Dean Sampson. Koulibaly is 85 for 180 with 28 ground balls and Sampson is 51 for 108 with 29 ground balls. Graduate student goaltender Collin Dougherty started all 12 games, sporting a 33.1 save percentage, 58 saves and a 15.26 goals-against average. Utica is 4-0 all-time against the Gators.
