ELMIRA, NY - The Utica University men's soccer team dropped its conference matchup with the Elmira Soaring Eagles 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Anderson Velazquez (Norwood, NY/Marble Hill) finished the afternoon with six shots, three on goal.
Ryan Schlacter (Phoenix, NY/Phoenix),
Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central),
Noah Scranton (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) each had one shot on goal and four other players had at least one shot.
Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) started in cage for Utica, stopping seven shots.
The Soaring Eagles struck first 5:28 into the match as Johan Chavez sent a very accurate corner into the box; the only thing Xidias could do was attempt to punch it out of the goal, however it rolled in for a 1-0 lead.
Both teams combined for 13 shots in the first 30 minutes of action. Just under 17 minutes to play, Chavez notched his second goal off a penalty kick giving Elmira an early 2-0 advantage. Utica would finish the second half with five shots.
Elmira scored its third goal 23 minutes into the second half, credited to Kostantinos Triantafillou. Utica led the second half with nine shots and both teams only had one corner kick.
Utica (1-3-5, 0-1-2 Empire 8) hosts SUNY Poly in E8 action on Wednesday, October 2 at 5 p.m.
