FREDONIA, NY - The Utica University Women's Soccer team BLANK to the Fredonia Blue Devils on Friday afternoon.
Bella Noble (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) turned up as the Pioneers lone goal scorer in the effort. Noble was able to break through in the 61st minute to bring the Pioneers within one. She recorded two shots with one on goal in the contest. Leading the offensive effort was Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) who recorded three shots in the contest. Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) also tallied three shots, with one falling on goal. Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury), Rory Richard (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent), and Natalia Bell (Cortland, NY/Groton) also recorded a shot on goal in the team's effort. Between the pipes, goalkeeper Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) tallied three saves.
In the opening frame, both teams would battle back and forth for possession, but it would be the Blue Devils that would strike first in the 12th minute. After another grueling effort vying for possession the Blue Devils would be able to squeeze one by Connolly, to double the lead 2-0.
The momentum would swing back in favor of the Pioneers in the second frame, with Utica rifling off two shots before Bella Noble (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) was able to find the back of the net in the 61st minute to bring the score within one. Utica would continue the momentum through the rest of the half, rifling off five shots, none of which would be able to find the back of the net.
Utica (1-2, 0-0 Empire 8) is back in action tomorrow afternoon for day two of the Blue Devil Clarion Classic taking on the Oswego State Lakers. Game time in Fredonia is set for 12:30p.m.
