FREDONIA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell to the Oswego State Lakers by a score of 1-0 on day two of the Blue Devil Clarion Classic this afternoon.
Rory Richard (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) and
Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) each recorded two shots in the contest with one of Lamphere's falling on goal.
Bella Noble (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) tallied one shot on goal, and
Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) recorded a shot of her own.
Grace Maury (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) tallied a shot on goal as well as
Mackenzie Turner (Hamilton, NJ/The Hun School of Princeton). In goal,
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) recorded three saves in the first half, and
Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) recorded three saves in the second half.
The first half brought great offensive efforts from both sides, with each team recording more than four shots in the frame. Utica was outdone on the corner kick efforts, with Oswego recording three corners in the opening frame.
It would not be until the second half where the scoreless tie would be broken. Utica would start the half rifling off three shots before Oswego would drive the ball down the field and squeeze one past Pioneer goalkeep
Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) in the 84th minute. Utica would remain unable to find their footing to get one past the Oswego defense, ending the game 1-0.
Utica (1-3, 0-0 Empire 8) continues its road trip next week to take on the SUNY Potsdam Bears. Game time in Potsdam, NY is set for 7p.m.
