Gymnastics Readies for Rutgers Quad

UTICA, NY - The Utica University gymnastics team is set to travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on the Rutgers February Quad, hosted by NCAA Division I Rutgers University. Other teams in attendance will include NCAA Division I University of Maryland and NAIA Fisk University. Start time in the Jersey Mike's Arena on Sunday, February 2 is set for 1pm.

Last Time Out:  The Utica University gymnastics team set a new program record with a combined team score of 188.275 at home on Saturday evening. The Pioneers took home second place behind Cortland (189.025). Ithaca took third with a score of 186.025 and Ursinus took fourth with a score of 185.125. As a team, Utica scored a 46.975 on vault to take third in the event as a team. On the uneven bars, Utica finished with a score of 46.600 to finish second in the event. On the balance beam, the Pioneers finished with a score of 47.025 to take home first place as a team in the event, and a 47.675 on the floor to finish third in the event as a team. 
 
Record Breakers: The Pioneers shattered three team records at home last weekend. Utica set a new team points record with a combined team score of 188.275, shattering its previous record of 186.650 that was set at the first meet of the season. In the uneven bars, a new record was set with a team score of 46.600. In the floor exercise, a combined team score of 47.625 took the top spot in the record book. Emmy Graff (Boulder, CO/Connections) set new records in both the all-around and the uneven bars, with a score of 38.450 in the all-around, and a score of 9.625 in the uneven bars. 
 
In the Polls: The Pioneers have fallen just outside of the top 10 teams in the nation in this week's rankings, dropping in at no. 11. In the uneven bars, the Pioneers are currently ranked seventh nationally. On the balance beam, Utica is currently ranked ninth in the nation. 
 
Run it Back: Last season the team traveled to Rutgers in January to take on a quad meet featuring the Scarlet Knights, the Beavers of Oregon State, and the Owls of Southern Connecticut State. Last season's Rutgers January Quad marked the first meet in program history, where the program put out a great first showing. Despite a fourth place finish, the Pioneers combined for a team score of 176.725. The meet kicked off the beginning of a stellar freshman campaign for Grace Marra (St. James, NY/Smithtown East), who scored a combined 35.900 in the all-around, who went on to become the program's first All-American. 
 
A Look At Rutgers: The NCAA Division I Rutgers University Scarlet Knights are currently -2 and are 1-1 in the Big Ten Conference. Last time out for the Scarlet Knights, the team fell to Big Ten opponent Penn State by a score of 194.825-194.550. The Scarlet Knights' best rotation came on bars with a season-high 48.975, led by a trio of freshmen at 9.8 or above. Keeley Smith tied for second in the event with her career-high 9.850, while Delaney Adrian scored a career-high 9.825. Reagan Schenkel earned a 9.800. Rutgers outpaced Penn State on beam, 48.450-48.025. Rachael Riley tied for the win on beam with her 9.775. Adrian led the floor contingent with a tied-for-second performance of 9.825. 
 
Breaking Down Fisk: Last time out for the NAIA Fisk University Bulldogs, Fisk University junior Morgan Price won the All-Around title in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational in Washington, D.C. with a score of 39.450. The title came against three NCAA Division I schools in; host George Washington University, Penn University, and Yale University. On floor, the Bulldogs combined for a team score of 48.000. On vault, the team posted an impressive 48.825 for a program-best performance this season, and rounded out the competition with a combined team score of 191.225. 

Up Next: The team travels to Ithaca, NY to take on the Empire State Collegiate Championship, hosted by Cornell University. Other teams in attendance include the Big Red, Brockport, Cortland, Ithaca, and Long Island University. Start time on Sunday, February 9 is set for 1pm.
