Women's Soccer Takes First Conference Loss, Kogut Breaks Career Minutes Record

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team took it's first conference loss of the season on Wednesday evening, falling to the Hartwick College Hawks by a score of 1-0.

During the contest, senior Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury) became the sole possessor of the Pioneers career minutes record, ending the contest with a total of 5749 minutes, surpassing the record of 5733 minutes set by Summer Gagnon in 2020.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was defender Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) who managed three shots with one on goal. Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) and Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) each recorded a pair of shots on the evening, while Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) and Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels) each nabbed one. In goal for the Pioneers, Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) tallied three saves.

The Pioneers would be the ones to strike first, registering the first shot attempt of the contest, a header from Panko that would go out over the top of the net. Hartwick would then be able to generate a corner, which would fall onto the foot of a Hawk and past Pcola for Hartwick to break the scoreless tie in the 20th minute. Utica would only be able to record another two shots to Hartwick's four in the remainder of the opening frame, heading into the halftime break down 1-0.

In the second half, the Pioneers would be able to find their offensive footing, registering the first shot of the frame in the 51st minute off the foot of Lamphere that would be corralled by the Hartwick keeper. Utica would be able to generate some offensive opportunities late in the contest, but would be unable to find the back of the net.

Utica (7-4-4, 4-1-3 Empire 8) returns to action on Saturday, October 18 as the team travels to take on the Nazareth University Golden Flyers. Game time from Rochester, NY is set for 1pm.
