Women's Soccer Falls to Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell to the Nazareth University Golden Flyers by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. 

Leading the way for the Pioneers was Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham), who recorded a team high three shot attempts in the contest, with only one shot on goal. Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) and Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) each were able to rifle off a pair of shots in the contest. Six other Pioneers managed to rifle off at least one shot attempt, with none finding the back of the net. In goal for the Pioneers was Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham), who recorded a career high 14 saves in the effort. 

Nazareth would be the ones to put forth the first scoring effort of the game in the fourth minute that would be corralled by Pcola. The Pioneers' first try of the game would come in the seventh minute off the foot of Panko that would be gobbled up by the Nazareth goalkeeper. The Pioneers would manage to rifle off another eight shots in the opening frame, but would be unable to find the back of the net, heading into the halftime break in the thick of a scoreless tie. 

Nazareth would once again be the first to register a scoring opportunity in the second half, getting a shot off in the 49th minute that would go out of bounds over the top of the net. Utica's first opportunity would come less than 30 seconds later off the foot of Piersma after a corner kick that would go out over the top of the net. For the remainder of the half, both teams would vye for possession, but it would be Nazareth that would break the scoreless tie in the 81st minute. The Pioneers would be unable to register another shot in the remainder of the frame, falling to Nazareth by a score of 1-0. 

Utica (7-5-4, 4-2-3 Empire 8) returns to action on Saturday, October 25 as the team returns home to take on the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles in the team's final regular season home game. Game time from Laura M. Casamento Field is set for 1pm.
