Women's Soccer Travels to Sage, Honors Seniors on Saturday

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team is set for two matches this week. The team will travel to Albany, NY to take on the Russell Sage College Gators on Wednesday, October 8 beginning at 4pm. On Saturday, the Pioneers return to Laura M. Casamento Field to take on the Alfred University Saxons as the team will honor its seniors prior to the match. Game time is set for 1pm.

Last Time Out: The team managed a 87th minute goal to secure a 1-1 draw with the SUNY Geneseo Knights to remain unbeaten in conference play on Saturday afternoon. Leading the way for the Pioneers was Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) who found the back of the net for her first goal in the orange and blue. Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) managed a team high two shot attempts in the contest, with only one falling on goal. Three other Pioneers recorded at least one shot attempt in Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach), Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels), and Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham). In goal for the Pioneers, Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) allowed only one Geneseo goal while making seven saves.
 
Senior Saturday: Prior to Saturday's contest, Utica Women's Soccer will honor its eight seniors. Josephine O'Hare (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central), Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham), Sofia Fini (Campbell Hall, NY/Goshen), Grace Oliver (Auburn, NY/Auburn), Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach), Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury), Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville), and Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) will all be honored pregame. 
 
Goals Galore: 10 different Pioneers have now managed to find the back of the net this season. Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) has continued to impress this season with a team and conference leading nine goals. Piersma's mark is good enough to currently sit in 10th place on the single season record book. Samantha Ferguson's (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) four goals sit in second place on the team. Four Pioneers have found the back of the net three times this season in Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels), Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville), Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington), and Bailey Hewson (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh). Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach) has registered two goals this season, while Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy), Adrianna Calabria (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), and Carly Cordts (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) have found the back of the net once. The Pioneers' 30 goals this season are tied for the lead in the conference as a team, tied with Houghton for the top spot. 
 
Scouting Sage: The Russell Sage College Gators have posted a 3-7-1 record this season and are 1-4 in conference play. Leading the Gators on offense has been Gianna Viscusi who has managed to find the back of the net three times for the Gators this season. Three other Gators have scored this season as well, in Maria Stweart, Grace Denth, and Eva Hirschoff. Aside from Viscusi, Anna Shepard has recorded the second most shot attempts this season with 10, while Viscusi has recorded 22. Hailey Blake has done most of the work for the Gators in goal this season, posting a 0.86 goals against average with a .800 save percentage in four games played. Emma Fogarty has also been at goalkeeper for the Gators, posting a 2.00 goals against average with a .727 save percentage in four games played. Last season against the Gators, the Pioneers would fall by a score of 1-0. 
 
A Look at Alfred: The Alfred University Saxons have posted a 6-4-2 record on the season and are 2-2-2 in Empire 8 play. Leading the Saxons this season has been Lina Young who has managed to find the back of the net six times this season. Four other Saxons have managed to score this season in Zoey Wolf, Julia Flaitz, Aby Scanlan, and Alex Ruzekowicz. Young leads the Saxons in both shot attempts and shots on goal with 33 and 15, respectively. Despite not finding the back of the net yet this season, Ava Thayer has registered the second most shot attempts and shots on goal this season with 23 shots and 11 shots on goal. Kiani Barnard-Pratt has done most of the work for the Saxons in goal this season, posting a 0.60 goals against average with a .879 save percentage on the season with only seven goals allowed. All time against the Saxons, the Pioneers sport a 16-5-4 record, with last season's matchup ending in a 0-0 draw.
