WILKES-BARRE, PA - Utica University's women's wrestling team traveled to Wilkes-Barre, PA to compete in the Wilkes University Women's Open. Six Pioneers competed in the event, which saw 33 participating teams, being limited to just two wins, one of which was achieved in a match between two Pioneers. The team will now look ahead to a quad-meet next weekend.
Just two Pioneers earned a win on the day,
Hannah Kusmierczak (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) and
Dakoda House (Oneonta, NY/Cherry Valley Springfield). Kusmierczak's win came in the first round of the 145-pound bracket. She faced Lackawanna College's Haylee Fessler, earning a technical fall victory. House's victory came over fellow Pioneers Octavida Dragotta. The two faced off in the 124-pound consolation round of 16. House's win came by fall after 28 seconds.
The team will compete again next weekend on Saturday, November 22nd. The squad will travel to Jersey City, NJ to compete in a quad-meet hosted by New Jersey City University. Action is set to begin at 2:00 pm at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.
