CORTLAND, NY - Utica University's women's hockey team began its regular season with a road match against the #14-ranked Cortland Red Dragons. Both teams battled in a close contest, with a Cortland 1st-period goal standing as the only score of the game. The Pioneers will look ahead to a home-and-home series against #8-ranked Oswego State.
The Pioneers were unable to find the back of the net in the contest, putting 22 shots on target.
Angelina Garganese (Winter Springs, Fl/) led the team with five, followed by
Kaci Ryder (Shrewsbury, MA/) with four, and
Samantha Dobrzynski (Garnet Valley, PA/) with three.
Katherine Sheahan (Oak Lawn, IL) played in net for Utica, saving all but one of the 36 shots she faced.
At the 7:17 mark of the first period, Kira Cook scored the lone goal of the game for the Red Dragons. Fanny Aneborn and McKenzie Brown both assisted on the score. Eline Gillodes made 22 saves in her outing.
The squad will play another road game on Friday night against #8-ranked Oswego State. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Marano Campus Center Arena. The teams will rematch the following day at the Utica University Nexus Center for the women's regular-season home opener.Puck drop on Saturday is set for 3:00 pm.
