Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Hockey Falls to #14 Elmira In First UCHC Matchup Against Rivals

HORSEHEADS, NY - Utica University's women's hockey team travelled to face the #14-ranked Elmira College Soaring Eagles, falling by a score of 3-1. Despite a long history of matchups between the institutions, this marked the first contest with Elmira inside the UCHC. The Pioneers will look to bounce back tomorrow when the teams rematch on Utica's home ice at 3:00 pm.

Defense ruled supreme in the game, as the teams combined for 32 total shots on goal. Utica accounted for seven of those shots, each by a different player. Nora Pollestad (Stavanger, Norway/) netted the lone goal for the orange and blue, coming off an assist by Samantha Dobrzynski (Garnet Valley, PA/). Defenders Grace Joscelyn (Loudon, NH/) and Tess Barrett (Tewksbury, MA/St. Mark's) tied with a game-leading three blocked shots apiece. Katherine Sheahan (Oak Lawn, IL) played the full game in net, saving 22 of the 25 shots that made it on target.

Elmira's offense was split between five players. Anna Lugge was the only multi-point Soaring Eagle, scoring one goal and assisting on another. Mo McBride and MK Boyle scored the other two goals for the home squad. Amber Meluzio and Bri Conger each tallied one assist as well. Sara Sevcikova tended the net for Elmira, saving all but one of the seven shots she faced.

The teams are set to face off again tomorrow, November 22nd, on Utica's home ice. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the Utica University Nexus Center.
