Women’s Hockey Plans for Home-And-Home With #11 Oswego State

UTICA, NY - Utica University's women's hockey team is set to play in a home-and-home series later this week against #11/13 Oswego State. On Friday, November 7th, the Lakers will play host for a 7:00 pm matchup before the teams rematch in Utica the following day at 3:00 pm. The Oswego game will be hosted at the Marano Campus Center Arena. After a 1-0 defeat in the regular season opener to #14 Cortland, the squad will look to take another opportunity to jump into the top 15.

Covering Cortland: In their first game of the regular season, the Pioneers fought valiantly, but fell 1-0 to the Red Dragons. Freshman goalie Katherine Sheahan (Oak Lawn, IL) turned in an incredible collegiate debut despite the result, turning away 35 shots in the contest. Samantha Dobrzynski (Garnet Valley, PA/) was prominent on both ends of the ice, winning half of the team's total faceoff wins, tying with two other teammates for the lead with two blocked shots, and joining two other Pioneers with three or more shots. Cortland's Kira Cook scored the lone goal at the 7:17 mark of the 1st period. Both teams played quite clean, as the game saw only two charged minor penalties, one by each squad.

Laker Lowdown: Oswego had an incredibly strong 2024-25 season, finishing with a 22-3-2 overall record, culminating in an appearance in the SUNYAC Championship Game. It was a brutal offseason for the Lakers, as they lost all but one of their top five point scorers and their goalie, who played all but one game for the team. Among the losses are Rachel Corbett, the team's leading assister and the 2nd-highest point scorer (6g,16a), who joined Utica's coaching staff, and goaltender Lexi Levy, who joined Oswego's coaching staff. The lone returner, Jenna Majewski, tied for third-most points with an eight-goal, nine-assist sophomore season.

Through the Lakers' first two games, Georgia Cunliffe and Natalie Loncz have topped the scoresheet. Both players have scored one goal and assisted on another, leading the team with two points each. Majewski has scored the team's only other goal in the early season. Mia DeVivo has manned the net for each of Oswego's first games, earning a 1-1 record. In her 119:46 time on ice, DeVivo has earned a 2.00 goals allowed average and .915 save percentage.

Up Next: The Pioneers will play again next weekend in a two-game home series against Hilbert College. Both games will take place at the Utica University Nexus Center, with puck drops scheduled for 4:00 pm on Friday, November 14th, and 2:00 pm on Saturday, the 15th.
