ROCHESTER, NY - Utica University's men's wrestling team competed at the RIT Invitational on Saturday, with action split across 15 weight entries. The Pioneers saw several strong individual performances throughout the tournament, highlighted by multi-win outings from
Matt Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) and
Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain).
Bonato delivered one of Utica's most consistent efforts of the day at 149 pounds, opening his tournament with a dominant 14-0 fall over Norwich before adding a 16-1 technical fall against Oneonta to advance through the bracket. Richardson put together the team's best run of the event at 174, earning three consecutive victories with a fall over RIT, a sudden-victory decision against Wesleyan, and a major decision over Lycoming.
Elsewhere in the lineup, the Pioneers picked up wins from several wrestlers across the lower and upper weights.
Billy Beseth (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) earned a decision at 141, while
Marco Milankovic (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) collected a fall at 133 in his opening round.
Lukas Charles (Nyack, NY/Nyack) added a win of his own, and
Nuallan King (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl Area High School) secured a first-period fall at 197 as he advanced through early competition.
The Pioneers will now look ahead to a home dual meet next Friday, December 12th. Utica will play host to Keystone College, with action set to begin at 7:00 pm on Miga Court in Clark Athletic Center.
