Women's Wrestling Gears up For Regional Championships

The Utica University women's wrestling gears up for the Regional I Championships hosted by Elmira College on Sunday, February 23 at 10 a.m.

Ticket Information:  Admission (Adult) - $20
Admission (Youth) - $10
Admission (Age 5 & Under) - Free
**Doors Open to the Public at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday**
 
Who's Attending: 12 teams including Utica will be in attendance: Alfred State, Buffalo State, Centenary (NJ), D'Youville, Elmira, Felician, Maine Maritime, New England College, New Jersey City, Sacred Heart and Western New England. 
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers last competed at the Frostburg State Bobcat Open on February 1. Rebekah May (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) at 131lb, took home a win against Leigh-Anne Verburg of Southern Virginia by fall, 14-3. Olivia LaPoint (Lake George, NY/Lake George) (145lb) picked up a win against Ava Torres of Presbyterian (5-2)
 
In the Ranks: Jazmene Molina (La Mirada, CA/Valencia) enters the NCWWC Championships at No. 9 in the OpenMat national rankings. She sports a 26-3 overall record and last placed fifth in a jam-packed 124lb weight class at the Frostburg Bobcat Open. 
Ally Fitzgerald from Sacred Heart and Linda Holeman from Western New England are the other notable names in the 124lb weight class. Fitzgerald is currently ranked No. 8 and last wrestled on January 25, recording two wins. Holeman last wrestled on February 8 in a dual against Sacred Heart and won by tech fall (10-0) over Cailan Drake. 
 
Looking Ahead: Qualifiers from the Regional Championships will travel to Coralville, Iowa to compete in the NCWWC National Championships on March 7 and 8 with a time TBD.
