Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Matchup Against Oswego

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's lacrosse team dropped its non-conference matchup against Oswego State 18-7 on Wednesday evening.
 
Grace Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led Utica with three goals and one assist on four shots on goal. She was also dominant at the draw circle, collecting 11. Belicia Biette (Troy, NY/Columbia), Alexis Alteri (Clinton, NY/Clinton), Jessica Marciano (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili), Alyssa Specchio (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) each scored one goal. Maria Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Bella Kolb (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) totaled one assist each.
 
Makayla Purdy (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) made eight saves, multiple coming in high-danger situations.
 
It was a back-and-forth first quarter as Oswego and Utica combined for nine goals, five for the Lakers and four for the Pioneers. The Lakers scored two goals in the first three minutes, but Grace Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Alteri responded with a goal each, tying the game at two. Five more goals were scored throughout the period to send the team's into the second quarter; Oswego entered with a 5-4 lead.
 
The Lakers scored four goals in the second quarter compared to Utica's two as Oswego entered halftime with a 9-6 advantage.
 
Oswego pulled away in the second half, defeating Utica 18-7.
 
Utica (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) hosts Buffalo St on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at Gaetano Stadium.
