ROCHESTER, NY - Ty Montrose (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was unreal in the Pioneers' three weekend games to start their Spring Break schedule. For his all-around excellence, the Pioneer newcomer was granted the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. 

Montrose put together an absurd statline during the trio of weekend contests this past Saturday and Sunday, cruising in all different corners of the game as he helped power the Pioneers on every occasion in their two big victories over Delaware Valley and Penn State Altoona. In the first two contests of the weekend, Montrose supplied massive firepower to the Pioneer lineup, grabbing four hits and a team-high six RBI over that span. Montrose posted excellent slashing numbers in the initial two contests, owning a .500 average, .444 on-base percentage, and .625 slugging percentage. If that wasn't enough, just minutes after having a solid showing in the lineup for the Pioneers in their first game vs Altoona, Montrose took the mound to start game two and shut down a Lions lineup that racked up 18 runs the game before. The local product from Whitesboro went five innings, allowing just three runs and four hits as he picked up his first win of the season. Montrose fanned four and kept Altoona at bay early, allowing just a single run over the first four innings. Thanks to his standout play on both offense and defense, Montrose captured his first career Empire 8 accolade, picking up the Rookie of the Week during this awards cycle.

Montrose and the Pioneers will be back at the yard today, facing off against RIT at 3:00 PM. Including today's matchup, they will have four more games over the next three days to finish their Spring Break slate.
