Men's Lacrosse Faces Morrisville Wednesday, Opens Conference Play Saturday Against Nazareth

UTICA, NY - The Utica Men's lacrosse team travels to SUNY Morrisville on Wednesday, March 26 at 4 p.m. before their first Empire 8 conference matchup against Nazareth University on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. Utica play Nazareth at home at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Parking for visitors will be behind the stadium, and we will have staff available to direct accordingly. Please remind any spectators traveling, only service animals physically identified will be permitted in our stadium facility.

Last Time Out: Men's lacrosse picked up a 14-9 win against SUNY Canton as the team honored former Head Coach, Mike Parnell on March 22. 11 of the 14 goals scored by Utica were assisted. Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) led Utica with three goals and three assists. Ryan Hollenbeck (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W. Baker) scored four goals on four shots on goal and Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scored three goals. Nolan Shea (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) notched one goal and two assists followed by Logan Waterman (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Lucas Donahue's (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) one goal and an assist each. Considine, Hollenbeck and Donahue all have a point in five out of the last six games played. All three goalies saw time in-net for Utica. Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started and picked up his second win of the season while also making five saves. Jake Bowen (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) played nine minutes and made three saves. Owen Mix (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) finished the game with two saves. Cade Bourcy went 13 for 21 at the faceoff dot. Michael Mecca (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) and Andrew Sacco (New Haven, CT/North Haven) combined for 11 ground balls, six for Mecca and five for Sacco. Aaron Bergquist (Brewerton, NY/Central Square) held Canton's leading scorer, Austin Mesler to two goals on four shots on goal. Utica controlled the pace of play in the first half, scoring 11 goals compared to Canton's four. The Pioneer defense didn't let up any easy shots, forcing Canton's players down the ally and into poor shooting angles. Canton scored five goals in the second half compared to the Pioneer's three as Utica would take a 14-9 victory on Mike Parnell Day.
 
On Fire: Considine has seven goals and three assists in the team's last two matchups against Oneonta and Canton. Mecca leads the Pioneers with 22 ground balls. His most came last weekend against Canton where he notched six. Sacco has 13 ground balls and four takeaways in four games. Bergquist and Musso lead Utica with seven caused turnovers each. 
 
The Big Moment: The duo of Erickson and Donahue at the midfield has proven to be a dominant force.  They combined for eight points against Oneonta and Canton. Erickson has three goals and two assists in that span and Donahue has two goals and one assist.  
 
About Morrisville: The Mustangs are 1-2 overall with zero games played in SUYAC play. The team is coming off a 20-1 defeat over Alfred State College last weekend. The team's two losses came to SUNY Poly in overtime, 10-9 and Alfred University 14-4. Kyan Dohn leads Morrisville with eight goals and four assists on 15 shots on goal. He has 10 points in the last two games (six goals and four assists). He also leads with two man-up goals.  Jason Tedeschi is second on the Mustangs with 10 points off five goals and five assists. Ethan Henry and Ben Cooter have split faceoff duties. Henry is 6 for 25 (.240 percent) and Cooter is 11 for 22 (.500 percent). Andrew Idzik leads all long-poles on Morrisville with 11 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Blake Dunton has played all three games in-net and sports a 7.83 goals against average on 18 goals against. 
 
About Nazareth: The Golden Flyers are 4-4 overall with no Empire 8 games played. Nazareth has won one of its last three games. They dropped two consecutive matchups against St. Lawrence (17-5) and Cortland (18-8). Matthew Farrington leads Nazareth with 13 goals and 10 assists. He has at least one point in all eight games played with his most coming against Clarskon where he posted three goals, three assists and four shots on goal. The only game Farrington didnt score was against Springfield where he only notched one assist. Quinn McKercher has 18 points off 15 goals and three assists with a team-leading 38 shots on goal. Jacob Dekenberger is 111 for 181 at the faceoff X (.613 percent) along with 57 ground balls. In the last two games, he's won 44 of 17 faceoffs and scooped 23 ground balls. McLean Ralston has a 4-3 record between the pipes and sports a 12.24 goals-against average on a .519 save percentage. 
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers travel to St. John Fisher on Wednesday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
