Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) led Utica with four points off two goals and two assists.
Ryan Hollenbeck (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W. Baker),
Quinn Orsini (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) and
Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) scored once each, while
Colin Zouck (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) and
Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) posted one helper each.
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) made 10 saves in between the pipes.
The faceoff battle was neck and neck throughout the game as Alfred pulled away 12 to 11.
Cade Bourcy (Syracuse, NY/Skaneateles) went five for eight while
Trent Herlehy (Hamburg, NY/Frontier Central) and
Chase Nappi (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) combined for five wins.
Gianpaul Cooper (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led the Pioneer defense with three caused turnovers.
Colin Musso (Auburn, NY/Auburn) totaled five groundballs and
Michael Mecca (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) posted four.
Utica was outscored 3-0 in the first quarter.
The Pioneers scored five goals in the second quarter, all five of them coming consecutively between the 13:04 and 2:18 mark. The Saxons responded with a goal from Kevin Matson with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter as Utica entered halftime with a 5-4 edge.
Alfred shut down the Pioneer offense in the second half, allowing zero goals on 11 shots (five on goal).
Utica (6-8, 3-4 Empire 8) hosts Hartwick College on Wednesday, April 23 at 4 p.m.
