Pioneers and Hawks Battle Till Very End

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's lacrosse team fell 8-7 in overtime against the Hartwick Hawks on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers made a late second-half push, sending the game into overtime.
 
Leading the Pioneers was Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) with three points. Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) scored twice and Michael Milankovic (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) and Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scored once each. Aaron Bergquist (Brewerton, NY/Central Square) tallied the Pioneers' only assist.
 
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) made 14 saves in the goal. He made eight saves in the first half and six in the second.
 
The fight for faceoffs was dominated by Utica players, with the final tally being 11-8. Sophomore Cade Bourcy (Syracuse, NY/Skaneateles) went 7-10 while Trent Herlehy (Hamburg, NY/Frontier Central) and Chase Nappi (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) posted four wins combined.
 
Utica scored four unanswered goals between the 3:43 mark in the third quarter and the 2:14 mark in the fourth. All four goals were scored by four different players: Donahue, Milankovic, Erickson and Considine. Considine's man-up goal at 2:14 in the fourth quarter tied the ballgame up, sending the teams to overtime.
 
The Hartwick Hawks had an early lead, outscoring the Pioneers 4-1 in the first quarter. Hartwick kept their momentum going throughout the second and third quarters,  where they had a 6-3 lead and a 7-4 lead. The Pioneers gained traction in the fourth quarter, where they tied up the game to send it into overtime. The Hawks snagged a goal just two minutes into overtime to secure the 8-7 victory.
 
The Pioneers (6-9, 3-5 Empire 8) will host their Senior Day game against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m.
