Women's Outdoor Track and Field Completes Day Two of Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, NY - The Utica University women's outdoor track and field team completed day two of the Cortland Classic, hosted by SUNY Cortland on Saturday evening. 
 
Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) had a standout performance in the heptathlon, finishing third overall with 3,730 points. She posted a long jump of 5.15m, a javelin throw of 28.77m, and ran 2:51.94 in the 800m to round out her seven-event slate.
 
Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) made noise on the track, finishing fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:22.08.
 
Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles with a 16.16 in prelims and finished seventh overall with a time of 19.04. She also ran a 28.20 in the 200m, while teammates Elizabeth Glomski (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) clocked in at 28.28 and Nyasia March clocked in at 27.46.
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, Lilly Messler (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) led the way for Utica, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:11.20.
 
In the shot put, Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) led Utica with a throw of 10.44m, earning a 15th-place finish. She was followed by Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) who threw 9.96m for 16th, and Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) with a mark of 9.37m, placing 21st.
 
In the high jump, Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) had a standout performance for Utica, clearing 1.58 meters to tie for first place. Jada Anthony (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) also competed in the event, finishing tied for sixth place with a clearance of 1.42 meters.
 
In the triple jump, Leigha Soto (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) was Utica's top performer, finishing 12th overall with a mark of 9.55 meters.
 
In the discus throw, Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) led Utica with a strong toss of 34.10 meters, placing 10th overall. Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) followed with a throw of 29.69 meters for 18th place.
 
The team will now travel to Troy, NY to take on the RPI Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI on Friday, April 25th. Start time is to be determined.
