ROCHESTER, NY -
Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) of the Utica University women's indoor track and field team has been named this week's Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
Suppa set a new school record in the 60m dash, alongside another standout performance in the 60mH on Friday evening at the SLU Open. Suppa wasted no time asserting control in the women's 60m hurdles, cruising through prelims in 8.89 seconds before lowering that mark to an 8.85 in the finals to take the event title. Suppa doubled back in the 60m dash and delivered another dominant performance. After leading prelims in 7.81, she exploded to a 7.69 in the final to win the event outright and shatter the school record of 7.82 that was set back in 2020.
Suppa and the Pioneers are back in action on February 27 and 28 as the team enters postseason action at the Empire 8 Championships, hosted by Nazareth University. Start time for day one action on February 27 is set for 2pm, from Rochester, NY.
